Good Dental Care
Kevin Robb
Good dental care is an essential part of our overall health. Most people take good care of their teeth for cosmetic reasons, without realizing the importance of good dental hygiene on one's overall health. The following information will make you want to brush your teeth more than twice a day, and visit a dentist every month instead of twice a year!
The mouth is an entryway for microbial infections. In other words, microbes enter your body through your mouth, and make their way down your throat to other parts of the body, causing microbial infections. In fact, many diseases start in the mouth. Studies have shown that poor dental hygiene has an affect on, and may even cause periodontal diseases, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high risk pregnancies, and even strokes.
The mouth is the dirtiest part of your body, and it is almost constantly full of germs and bacteria - no matter how often you brush your teeth. However, the less you care for your teeth, the more germs and bacteria that are present. Simply brushing your teeth isn't enough. Frequent brushing, rinsing with an anti-bacterial mouthwash, and flossing are necessary, along with a visit to the dentist twice a year for a good cleaning is required - and even then, you will never completely rid your mouth of bacteria.
Eating a healthy diet is also essential to good dental care. Calcium is needed for strong teeth, as well as strong bones. In fact, most of the foods that contribute to your overall good health will contribute to the health of your teeth and gums as well. Also, avoid smoking or dipping to keep your mouth healthy.
To avoid illnesses and problems with your teeth, practice good dental care. Brush your teeth once in the morning, upon waking, and again after each meal or snack. Use an anti-bacterial mouthwash twice a day, and floss at least twice a day as well. Visit your dentist twice a year for a good cleaning and check-up, and have problem teeth taken care of as soon as possible.
